To be a caregiver means to keep it together. You can’t be weak. You can’t break down. you cant loose it… ever. You have to be a mind reader and 2 steps ahead at all times. You always have to be prepared. Patience, kindness and a sense of humor or also recommended. And you have to do it with little help and even less sleep. Oh, and by the way, you have to keep your own sanity in the process.
What are we, superwomen! Oh yea, and supermen! No!!! We are regular people just trying to get from sun up to sun downing. We are not perfect and if we are lucky we will not hold everything in till we cant take it anymore.
so what to do, what to do, what to do?
As I was wondering the web as I usually do I came upon an article from the Times Uk.
It says:
Do five simple things a day to stay sane.
Connect with others.
Be active.
Take notice in your surroundings.
Keep learning.
Give to neighbors and communities.
I think I do these things on a day to day basis but something is still missing so I wanted to add my own. Are you ready 4 it?
GET CRAZY.
There I said it. There is no happiness without sadness and there is no sanity if your not a bit crazy. It’s the yin / yang of things. You cant have 1 without the other. So give in and let go. It doesn't have to be outrages but you do need to do something out of the ordinary. Let yourself get out of that ridged mundane day to day routine. And give yourself time to relax, reflect and release. Just 2 simple rules to follow. Don't break the law, and don’t do anything that would hurt yourself or someone else.
A few of my favorites are:
Screaming out loud
Crying in the shower
Night swimming alone
Dancing it out
Riding on the back of a motorcycle
And of course writing this blog.
These things may be a little tame in your book but they work for me. And that’s the point. Do what works for you. Just do something. My task for you this week is to do one thing that you thought you would never do or could never do because you were to busy being a caregiver. Then let me know in the comment section. Remember anything you do for yourself makes you better to everyone around you. especially the ones you care for.
